Daily J started as three brothers doing band practice in a shed in Blenheim, on New Zealand's South Island: Jayden on guitar and lead vocals, Jesse on synth and sax, Jonny Paul on bass. The "whole house was shaking with the bass and guitar", so they moved up to Auckland, where Rick Everard joined on drums. Their debut album Venus Ate Mars, recorded with Joe Faris, arrived in November 2020, and its lead single "Left Me Like Summer" clocked up close to two million streams. The two-part album Slush Honey followed across 2022 and 2023, and their own store now also stocks Scatterbrains on vinyl. Live, in their words: "We like to dress up and have a bit of fun, get a bunch of props, make it like a proper show for everyone."

Who produced Venus Ate Mars?
Joe Faris, a friend of the band, who they credit with taking the record “that next level”. They came out of the sessions attached to the vocoder and the Rhythm King Maestro drum machine — and, they say, you can hear a kombucha bottle on the album somewhere.
What is “Left Me Like Summer” about?
Their most-streamed song. In the band’s words it is “a tune about kids falling in love over summer, ignoring that it would soon have to come to an end as they would be forced to go separate ways” — summer as “a seasonal reminder of the one that got away”. It was the lead single from Venus Ate Mars and passed a million streams within months of the album’s release.
What is the Wabi Sabi tour?
The band’s own name for the 2026 run: “Wabi Sabi — beautiful imperfections tour”, AUS / CAN / UK / EU, 14 August to 25 September. It is their first time playing Canada and mainland Europe. It opened in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne in August, crossed to Toronto and Montreal in September, then Dublin, Glasgow, Manchester, London and Bristol, and finishes with Brussels, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Berlin and Paris.

There are. Nice N Sleazy runs two rooms and on Wednesday 16 September 2026 both are working: Daily J are the BASEMENT gig, 7.30pm to 11pm, while the jazz trio Amphitrio play the upstairs room from 6pm to 9pm. Tickets are separate — the Daily J ticket is for the basement, £16.50.
Was Daily J ever a five-piece?
Yes. When Ones To Watch interviewed them in 2021 they were five: the three Paul brothers plus Rick Everard on drums and Cody Wilcox on guitar. Every 2026 tour listing — the band’s own tour poster and the venues’ press notes — names four: Jayden, Jesse and Jonny Paul with Rick.
What is a Daily J gig actually like?
Dressed up, in their own account: “We like to dress up and have a bit of fun, get a bunch of props, make it like a proper show for everyone. Have a bit of fun, create a mood, get the crowd feeling the tunes.” Expect saxophone — Jesse plays it live, which is not something most indie bands can do.
Are any dates on the tour sold out, and what are the age limits?
Amsterdam’s Paradiso show on 22 September is sold out — the band flag it on their own homepage, and their poster marks London’s Bush Hall and Bristol’s Exchange as low on tickets. Age limits are set per venue: the Manchester date at The Deaf Institute is 14+ with a 23:00 curfew, and Bristol’s Exchange is over-14s with an adult for under-18s.
Why are they called Daily J?
The three brothers are Jayden, Jesse and Jonny. Asked about the name, the band said: “All the names of the brothers start with the letter J.” They also thought it “reflects nicely on the summer/psychedelic vibes that is our brand.”
Where are Daily J from?
Blenheim, in Marlborough at the top of New Zealand’s South Island. The three Paul brothers grew up there and rehearsed in the family shed before moving to Auckland, which is where the band is based now.

No. It’s at Exchange, the community-owned venue at 72–73 Old Market Street (BS2 0EJ), on Saturday 19 September 2026, 7pm. Over-14s; under-18s need an adult with them. Tickets via Ticketmaster and Headfirst Bristol.
Who is supporting Daily J on the UK dates?
It changes night to night, and not every promoter has named one. The Pavilion open the Bristol show at Exchange on 19 September; EVERYMAN take the Manchester date at The Deaf Institute on the 17th; EFRO support both German dates, Hamburg on the 23rd and Berlin on the 24th. Glasgow is billed by the venue only as “Daily J + support”, so Nice N Sleazy has not published the opener yet.
