Collective Soul are an American rock band formed in 1992 in Stockbridge, Georgia, growing out of a demo by songwriter Ed Roland. Their sound blends alternative rock, post-grunge and hard rock hooks, and their breakout 'Shine' topped the Mainstream Rock chart after gaining traction on Atlanta radio. The follow-up run of hits, including 'December', 'The World I Know' and 'Heavy', which spent fifteen weeks at number one on Mainstream Rock, made them a fixture of 1990s rock; their 1995 self-titled album went triple platinum and spent 76 weeks on the Billboard 200. Led by brothers Ed and Dean Roland with bassist Will Turpin, the band played both Woodstock '94 and '99 and were inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in 2009.
