About
Chicane is the professional name of Nicholas Bracegirdle, an English musician, DJ and record producer from Chalfont St Giles, born in 1971 and active since 1994. His 1996 single "Offshore" reached No. 12 on the UK Singles Chart; "Saltwater", based on vocals by Clannad member Máire Brennan, reached No. 6, and "Don't Give Up", featuring Bryan Adams, became a UK number-one hit. His debut album Far from the Maddening Crowds (1997) is still considered a seminal release among the trance music community, and Behind the Sun (2000) was certified gold. He founded his own record label, Modena Records, and his latest album, Trampolines, was released in 2024. He also performs live as a full band with a rotating line-up, has played Glastonbury and Creamfields, and in March 2025 performed his debut album with a live orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall.
