Chet Faker is the recording name of Nicholas James Murphy, an Australian musician born in Melbourne in 1988. Working across electronica, downtempo and soul, he first drew attention with a stripped-back 2011 cover of Blackstreet's "No Diggity." His 2014 debut album Built on Glass topped the ARIA chart, and its single "Talk Is Cheap" was voted number one in Triple J's Hottest 100 that year. He swept five ARIA Awards in 2014, including Best Male Artist and Producer of the Year. After a spell releasing music under his own name, he revived the Chet Faker moniker in 2020 for the album Hotel Surrender. His intimate, jazz-tinged vocals translate into absorbing festival and headline sets.
