Charlotte Maria Church, born Charlotte Maria Reed on 21 February 1986 in Llandaff in Cardiff, is a Welsh singer-songwriter, actress and television presenter, and a soprano. Her break came at eleven, when she sang Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Pie Jesu" down the telephone on This Morning, and she became a hugely popular classical singer as a child before a less successful move into pop in 2005. By 2007 she had sold more than ten million records worldwide, over five million of them in the United States. She hosted The Charlotte Church Show on Channel 4 and released Back to Scratch in October 2010. She is politically active, having supported Plaid Cymru and the cause of Welsh independence.
