Carcass are a British metal band formed in Liverpool in 1985, built around the enduring partnership of guitarist Bill Steer and bassist-vocalist Jeff Walker. Pioneers of grindcore and, later, melodic death metal, they pushed extreme music toward greater technicality across landmark albums including Necroticism – Descanting the Insalubrious (1991) and Heartwork (1993), the latter released through Columbia and rare for an extreme act on a major label. After splitting in the mid-1990s, they reformed in 2007 and returned with the acclaimed Surgical Steel (2013) and Torn Arteries (2021). Loudwire once ranked them among the greatest metal bands of all time. Reliable festival headliners worldwide, Carcass remain a fierce, influential live force decades into their career.
