Bun B, born Bernard Freeman in 1973 in Port Arthur, Texas, is an American Southern hip-hop rapper who first made his name as half of the influential duo UGK, formed with the late Pimp C in 1987. His solo career opened with Trill (2005), which reached number six on the Billboard 200, and 2010's Trill OG earned the rare five-mic rating from The Source. Beyond music he joined Rice University's faculty in 2011 as a distinguished lecturer teaching a course on hip-hop and religion, and later opened the Trill Burgers venture in Houston. He received the 360 Legend Award in 2014 for his career and community work. A veteran of the road, Bun B remains a commanding live presence and elder statesman of Texas rap.
