Buena Vista Social Club (Touring)

Buena Vista Social Club is a 2023 stage musical with a book by Marco Ramirez, built on the music recorded by the ensemble of the same name. Set in Havana and spanning the 1950s to the 1990s, it follows four musicians through the arrival of communism and the rise of Fidel Castro to their collaboration on the 1997 album. The score is sung entirely in Spanish and draws on son, danzón and bolero. Saheem Ali developed and directed it, with choreography by Patricia Delgado and Justin Peck; Juan de Marcos González, Nick Gold and Ry Cooder were involved. It premiered at the Atlantic Theater Company in November 2023 and extended twice.
