About

Brotherkenzie is the solo project of Nathan Stocker, guitarist of the Minnesota indie band Hippo Campus. Working in an intimate indie-folk vein, Stocker took the name from his sister Makenzie, who died in a 2009 car accident. Away from Hippo Campus he has released music including the albums Nathan, Big What and Barncat, with songs such as "Utah," a collaboration with Samia, and "Stick Around." The project has played rooms such as Minneapolis's 7th Street Entry, offering a quieter, more confessional counterpart to his main band's fuller sound. On stage it trades arena-scale energy for hushed, personal songwriting, and has drawn a devoted following among listeners who prize that closeness.
