Brakes are an English indie-rock band formed in Brighton in 2003, often described as a cult four-piece 'super-group' and known in the United States as Brakesbrakesbrakes. The line-up pairs singer-guitarist Eamon Hamilton with lead guitarist Thomas White, bassist Marc Beatty and drummer Alex White, the latter two drawn from The Electric Soft Parade after they saw Hamilton play a solo support slot. Hamilton, a Canadian-born musician, had also played keyboards live with British Sea Power before touring commitments with Brakes led him to leave that band in 2006. Trading in short, sharp songs and a restless energy, Brakes earned a devoted following on the UK indie circuit and a reputation as a spirited, unpredictable live act.
