Boney James, born James Oppenheim, is an American saxophonist, recording artist, songwriter and record producer. He is a four-time Grammy Award nominee — three for Best Pop Instrumental Album, one for Best Traditional R&B Performance — a Soul Train Award winner for Best Jazz Album in 1998 and a three-time NAACP Image Award nominee. He has sold over four million albums with four RIAA certified gold records, was named by Billboard in 2009 one of the top three contemporary jazz artists of the decade, and in 2024 became the first artist to notch 20 number-one singles on the Billboard SJ chart.
