About
Bobby Rush is an American blues and soul-blues showman whose career stretches back more than seventy years. Born Emmett Ellis Jr. in Homer, Louisiana in 1933 and based in Jackson, Mississippi since the early '80s, he first broke through with the 1971 hit "Chicken Heads" and was crowned by Rolling Stone as King of the Chitlin' Circuit, the network of African American clubs that arose during the segregation era. He won his first Grammy in 2017, at the age of 83, for Porcupine Meat, and is now a three-time Grammy winner, a Blues Hall of Famer and an 18-time Blues Music Award winner.
