About
Beats Antique are an experimental world-fusion and electronic group formed in San Francisco in 2007, working initially with producer Miles Copeland. The trio of composer-multi-instrumentalist David Satori, dancer and electronic musician Zoe Jakes and percussionist Tommy "Sidecar" Cappel fold Middle Eastern belly-dance music, downtempo, hip-hop, jazz, afrobeat and electronica into a live, theatrical whole. Their run of albums includes the 2007 debut Tribal Derivations, Collide, the two-part A Thousand Faces cycle with guests such as Les Claypool, and the concert record Creature Carnival Live. Along the way they have collaborated with John Popper of Blues Traveler and the Antibalas horns. Fusing tribal-fusion dance and performance art with their music, they are best known as a spectacle-driven live act, with elaborate touring productions like the carnival-themed Creature Carnival.
