About
Author & Punisher is the one-man band of Tristan Shone, an American mechanical engineer and artist who started it in San Diego in January 2004. He works in a style rooted in industrial metal and drone, played on machines he builds himself and calls Drone Machines and Dub Machines — he took up instrument-making both because conventional instruments could not produce the sound he was after and because band members were hard to find. The name comes from a religious t-shirt he wore in college, poking fun at a verse that calls Jesus the "author and finisher". Of his nine albums, Beastland arrived on Relapse Records in 2018, Krüller in 2022 and Nocturnal Birding in 2025.
