About
Appel — the stage name of Christoph Kotzé — is a South African Afrikaans singer-songwriter from Brits in the North West province. He began playing guitar in high school and, at seventeen, was a runner-up in the ATKV Crescendo competition. He first made his name as one of Afrikaans music's most prolific songwriters, penning songs for artists such as Theuns Jordaan, Karlien van Jaarsveld, Bok van Blerk and Eden, whose song 'Superhero' won a Ghoema Award for Song of the Year (2014). Performing in an adult-contemporary folk-pop style, he has released albums including the chart-topping Patriot (2019) and runs his own label, Appel Musiek.
