Andrew Bird is an American musician born in Lake Forest, Illinois, in 1973, best known as a violinist, singer and gifted whistler. Classically trained, he layers violin, guitar, glockenspiel and looping pedals into intricate, one-man soundscapes that move between indie rock, folk and swing. Early albums such as Weather Systems and Armchair Apocrypha marked his shift from jazz toward songwriting, and 2019's My Finest Work Yet earned a Grammy nomination for Best Folk Album. On stage he is celebrated for improvisation, reshaping and rebuilding his songs in real time, often constructing them loop by loop in front of the audience. That combination of virtuosity and spontaneity makes his live shows a distinctive draw.
