André Schwartz

André Schwartz is a South African singer and musical theatre performer, classically trained as both a vocalist and pianist, who made his television debut at age 14 in the youth drama Sterlopers. He is best known as the first South African to play the Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera with Andrew Lloyd Webber's seal of approval. His leading roles also include Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar and The Pirates of Penzance. In 2018 he was diagnosed with motor neuron disease, publicly disclosed in early 2019. He continues to perform, including the show 'Any Dream Will Do – My pad met Webber'.
