Amorphis are a Finnish band formed in 1990 by Jan Rechberger, Tomi Koivusaari and Esa Holopainen. They began as a death metal act before broadening into progressive, folk and melodic death metal, and they have drawn on the Kalevala — Finland's national epic — for lyrics throughout their career.
