Alanis Morissette is a Canadian-American singer-songwriter, born in Ottawa in 1974, widely regarded as a defining voice of 1990s alternative rock. After two dance-pop albums released in Canada, she relocated to Los Angeles and broke through internationally with 1995's Jagged Little Pill, a confessional, raw-nerved record that sold around 33 million copies to become one of the best-selling albums of all time and won five Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year. Fuelled by singles such as "You Oughta Know," "Ironic," "Hand in My Pocket" and "You Learn," she has since sold more than 60 million records worldwide and earned seven Grammys in total. A candid, emotionally charged live performer, Morissette continues to headline tours decades into her career.
