About
A Perfect Circle are an American rock supergroup formed in Los Angeles, California, in 1999 by guitarist Billy Howerdel and Tool vocalist Maynard James Keenan. Their debut Mer de Noms (2000) entered the Billboard 200 at number four, selling 188,000 copies in its first week; Thirteenth Step charted at number two in 2003, and the covers album Emotive followed in 2004. The first three albums sold over 4 million copies collectively as of 2005. Keenan and Howerdel are the only constant members, the current lineup completed by Smashing Pumpkins guitarist James Iha, bassist Matt McJunkins and drummer Josh Freese. The band reformed in 2017 to record Eat the Elephant, played live again in April 2024 and released the standalone single Starless in May 2026, ahead of a European and UK tour.
