A Perfect Circle are an American rock supergroup formed in Los Angeles in 1999 by guitarist Billy Howerdel and Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan. Trading Tool's density for something more melodic and atmospheric, their debut Mer de Noms (2000) entered the Billboard 200 at number four, and its follow-up Thirteenth Step (2003) reached number two. The band's lineup has featured players including James Iha, Josh Freese and Matt McJunkins, with Keenan and Howerdel the constant core. After a long hiatus they returned with Eat the Elephant in 2018. Their first three albums together sold several million copies. On stage the band are known for immersive, visually rich shows, staging elaborate tours and reunion runs across the United States and beyond.
