About

A Chorus Line is a 1975 musical conceived by Michael Bennett, with music by Marvin Hamlisch, lyrics by Edward Kleban and a book by James Kirkwood Jr. and Nicholas Dante. It is set on the bare stage of a Broadway theatre, where seventeen dancers audition for places on a chorus line and, in the process, describe the events that shaped them and pushed them towards dancing. After several workshops and an Off-Broadway run it opened at the Shubert Theatre on 25 July 1975, directed by Bennett and co-choreographed by him with Bob Avian.
