About
54-40 are a Canadian rock band from Tsawwassen in Delta, British Columbia, named for the slogan "54-40 or Fight!" out of the Oregon boundary dispute. Neil Osborne and Brad Merritt met in 1978 at South Delta High School; Osborne went to the Berklee College of Music in Boston, came home, and formed the band with Merritt and the drummer Ian Franey. Their first gig was in Coquitlam on 8 December 1980. Four of their albums have been certified platinum in Canada and they have been nominated for eight Juno Awards, sitting among the country's top fifty best-selling Canadian bands between 1996 and 2016.
